During 2007, the first year of operation for the IHF, 7 grants were awarded totalling $100,000.00.
River Valley Technologies, India.
$10,000.00
This grant has been awarded to support two interrelated projects: Funding will be used to distribute copies of the full-colour proceedings from the 7th International Symposium on Display Holography, which was held in Wales, UK, during July 2006. These will be distributed to art, gallery and museum collections that might not normally consider holding this type of publication.
The rest of the grant will be used to allow video recordings of the symposium presentations, which are being made available free of charge online. Many artists, students and creative workers were not able to attend the event due to financial restrictions, so this service will allow them to 'follow' the presentations at no cost. These videos can be accessed now at:
The Butler Institute of American Art, USA.
$10,000.00
Awarded to assist with the purchase of “Crevasse 2006”, by American artist Sally Weber. This is the first grant within the IHF's Holography Purchase Project and has allowed the Butler Institute to include this white-light transmission hologram in their permanent collection.
Jeanne Benton, USA.
$5,000.00
Provided to assist with the cost of preparation, research, organisation, production of illustrations and photographing of key holograms which are included in the new book "Holographic Imaging", by Stephen A. Benton and V. Michael Bove, Jr. This publication is based on Steve Benton's teaching at MIT and covers many hands-on aspects of holographic imaging. The publication can be pre ordered at:
Banbury Museum, Banbury, UK.
$10,000.00
This grant is part of a two-year award towards the costs of curating the creative section of a touring exhibition “Holograms, the First 60 Years” which will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the invention of holography in the UK.
Work is being selected from the London-based Jonathan Ross Hologram Collection, with additional pieces selected from prominent artists which will help complement this survey exhibition.
Opening at Banbury Museum on 1st March and continuing until 4th May 2008, the exhibition will then tour to:
The Oxfordshire Museum, 10 May - 6 July 2008;
Rugby Museum & Art Gallery, 6 – 31 August 2008;
Buckinghamshire County Museum, Aylesbury, 6 Dec 2008 to mid-March 2009.
All of these venues will offer free entrance to the exhibition and several educational activities are planned.
The IHF is delighted to have been able to assist such a wide variety of projects spread over three continents. We would like to congratulate each of the awardees and wish them great success with their projects.
